Cursor Text to Speech

Varterm reads Cursor aloud. Turn on Agent Auto-read and finished agent replies play while you keep working. Highlight text in any file and hear it. Jump through long replies part by part. Change speed or voice from the status bar.

  1. Extensions view → search Varterm TTS → Install (user), then reload other Cursor windows.
  2. Highlight text and click the status bar icon, or right-click Read Selection Aloud. Nothing is copied.
  3. Click Agent Auto-read in the status bar. Finished replies from every open window join one queue and are read in the order they arrived, so parallel agents never talk over each other.
  4. Markdown is stripped before speech, so headings, code fences, and links are not read out as punctuation.
  5. Use play, pause, stop, and jump. The 1× chip opens speed (0.75×–2×) and voice. Click the speaker on a voice to preview. 66 free neural voices across 29 languages, or set your own ElevenLabs key for Premium voices.
